iPhone Gets Street View

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The iPhone 2.2 firmware is out. The coolest addition has to be Google Maps Street View. How to open Street View isn’t immediately obvious, so here’s a quick tip. You need to first put the Drop Pin on the map. Tap the “peel back” button at the bottom-right of the Maps application, then tap “Drop Pin”. Tap the Drop Pin to bring up the bubble and tap the icon on the left side of the bubble. If the icon is disabled, it means Street View isn’t available at that location — move the pin and try again.

Another awesome addition is over-the-air podcast. You no longer need to sync your iPhone in order to get the latest podcast. That means you can get your NPR fix anytime, anywhere. Woohoo!

iPhone Tip: How to enter the tilde character

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I posted this tip on our Forum a while back. Since I still get emails regarding this, it is probably worth reposting it here.

When setting up FileChute for iPhone, you need to enter the Download URL from FileChute. Some users have URLs containing the ~ character. To type “~”, first tap the “123″ button at the lower-left of the keyboard, then tap the shift key key. Tilde is now the key to the immediate right of the shift key.
