FileChute: Short URL Service Interruption

Friday, February 15th, 2008

FileChute uses snipr.com as the primary short URL service. When the primary service is not available (which has been the case for the last day or two), it switches to a secondary one. But there was an issue with the secondary service implementation.

I released FileChute 3.0.3 this morning to address this problem. Current FileChute users can update from within the app (”Check for Updates…”) or download the new version here:

To clear any cached broken short links, use the “Clear Cached Short URLs” item in the File menu.

Mac OS X 10.5.2

One of my biggest gripes with Leopard was Stacks. Showing the contents of a folder rather than the icon of that folder itself simply made no sense to me. As a Mac user, I was annoyed by this behavior. As the developer of FolderBrander, this was really bad news because it made FolderBrander much less useful.

Fortunately, the latest update to OS X brings back the pre-Leopard behavior as an option. Ctrl-click on the folder in the Dock and select “Folder” for the “Display as” option. Macworld has a nice article by Dan Frakes summarizing the update with a brief mention of FolderBrander.
